Training & Experience
Trained & worked in UK for > 10 years, passing through basic (SHO) & higher (SpR) surgical training and working
as senior registrar & locum consultant (see page 3).
Subspecialty experience in hip and knee arthroplasty was gained from 3 international centres;
1. Wrightington Hospital, Wigan, UK
2. Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
3. St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Special interest is navigation & computer assisted orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS), particularly in hip and knee
arthroplasty.
The interest in CAOS started in 1998 with a one-year fellowship in navigation and robotics, University of Hull, UK. In 2001
registered for MD degree at the University of Leeds, UK. The research project of this degree resulted in developing a
novel technique of computer assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) using patient specific templates.
I published few book chapters & editorials & I organised symposia and conferences in this field in Egypt & Middle East. I
was invited as a faculty and session chairman for some international conferences (Cleveland Clinic Knee Summit,
MIS-Meets-CAOS, AFA & CAOS International).
I introduced navigation & computer assisted techniques to Egypt. I use this modern technology for hip and knee
arthroplasty for my patients and to help other colleague surgeons too.
